Our personal recommendations for an enjoyable stay on the foothill of Babia Gora. Explore the natural beauty of Orawa and Podhale region.
Our guesthouse is situated at the foothill of, you guessed it by the name, Babia Gora. The hiking trail towards the peak (1724m) starts directly from the doorstep. The hike to the peak takes almost a full day. A bit shorter is the northern area with Polica (1369m).
The Tatra is where the hustle and bustle of Polish mountains are. Here the peaks are taller and steeper and also more crowded. From easy hikes to cozy Tatra mountain huts to long and steep hikes, here you finde everything.
Our recommendation is the Western Tatra near Wolowiec/Spalena. You reach the trailheads within just 40-50min by car.
One of our favourite (rather difficult) hikes stretches along the Rohace ridge.
Nearby are three small ski resorts:
There are also several smaller lifts – ideal for Beginners – in Zawoja (about 11–13 km away) that are perfect for learning or a quick afternoon session: Located in Zawoja Czatoża. These are shorter T-bar lifts on gentle slopes, often less crowded than the main chairlifts. Also U Żura (Chabówka) is just about 19 km away, offering easy slopes and a friendly atmosphere for novice skiers.
The bigger and also more alpine resorts are roughly 40-50min by car: Rohace-Spalena, the “high alpine” Kasprowy Wierch and Bialka Tatranska are the perfect choice for the experienced skiers.
Sometimes skitouring can start directly from our house, but usually your best bet are Pilsko and the Tatra mountains. Our favourite tours in Tatra mountains are near Spalena and Wolowiec. Talk to us, if you need a skitouring guide. You reach both within 40-50 mins. by car.
After a stressfull workweek in busy Krakow or a strenuous hike, we all need a relaxing moment (or two). Besides the calming views from the comfortable beds, sofa or sunny terrasse, you may lay in the grass or go for a short walk in the nearby forest.
The Podhale region is famous for its geothermal waters, which are rich in minerals like sulfur and magnesium. Chocholowskie Thermal Bath is the biggest wellness temple in Malopolska and similar to the smaller Meander Baths just a good half hour drive away. The latter is known for its highly mineralized water (resembling sea water) and a more relaxed, less crowded atmosphere compared to the larger parks on the Polish parks.
